03.18 Friday March
18, 2005: The first racing weekend lead off with racing
on Friday afternoon. It appears there was a race scheduled a few
weeks ago, was was canceled due to the weather. This is a partial
make up day, also some training sessions. Weather is damp, but not
raining. Most of the vehicles are large expensive motor homes, but
there aren't that many vehicles of all types over there, even by midnight.
What is new for this year is the lighting of the permanent and semi
permanent buildings and other structures there. It looks like street
lights of some kind.
03.19 Saturday March 19, 2005:
Racing began at 11:45am today. Not many vehicles, and they
were mostly very large expensive motor homes. Weather not so good,
but useable. Rather uneventful day. Most of the motor homes came
in last evening and camped over for the night.
03.20 Sunday March 20, 2005:
Continuing the weekend. Fewer vehicles than yesterday because
some of the motor homes departed last evening.
04.03 Sunday April 3, 2005:
There's been some heavy rain in the area, and Saturday was no good
for racing, which is just as well because I understand that nothing was
scheduled for Saturday. Sunday was nice enough to race. The
weather was light rain, sleet, some snow and some small hail. Racing
went well up until four in the afternoon when they decided to call it quits.
This was a day for all the red necks. All pick-up trucks
and trailers. Not the kind of vehicles that were here for the last
event. Everyone was out of there by five.
04.04 Monday April 4, 2005:
Some inconsiderate person and his motorcycle was over there most
of the afternoon either running around the track, or tuning up his engine.
Big bike, very noisy. Beautiful day here in Newburg. Except
for the damn motorcycle.
05.08 Sunday May 8, 2005: There
was racing today, but not very impressive. Pick-up trucks with a
motorcycle in the bed began to arrive after 9:30 in the morning. There
were not very many of them; they all parked on the right side of the road
going up the hill. There were a few big bikes, but it wasn't much
of a show. Weather was acceptable. Lots of time between races,
and they were all out of there by 4:30. Mother's Day used to be one of the
biggest days over there, I've no idea what happened.
06.30 Thursday June 30, 2005:
This starts a three-day event which does not include the Fourth-of-July
holiday. There were a few races today, the weather was very good, but
there was not a large attendance. There were a dozen or so motor homes at
the campground, and a few pickup trucks and trailers. All were out
of there by 3:30 in the afternoon.
07.01 Friday July 01, 2005:
There was a medium size crowd today. Racing from 11:30 in the morning
until 5:00 in the afternoon. All in all it wasn't very noisy as if
there were not a lot of large bikes running. The campground had about twice
the number of occupants as the day before.
07.02 Saturday July 02, 2005:
It appeared that the racers, and the crowd in general, was about
the same as yesterday. Today was something like a replay of the
races yesterday. Noise was not up to its normal level, and I have
no idea why they weren't running large bikes. They were all out of
there early, about 4:00 in the afternoon. These three days had good
racing weather, but it was a little hot.
07.16 Saturday July 16, 2005:
This is a two-day event in drizzling rain and some sun. There
were about forty motor homes and campers on the hill by late Friday night.
Racing started at 11:20 this morning, which is a little early, but
perhaps they wanted to avoid the rain. Only thing, they ended racing
today at about 4:00 in the afternoon, which is really early for them.
Almost all the vehicles stayed over Saturday night.
07.17 Sunday July 17, 2005:
The rain gauge shows two inches since yesterday afternoon, so if there are
real motocross people over there they will really enjoy the mud. And
there's a lot of mud. A storm hung around this area all through the
night, and people who enjoy storms would have really liked the thunder and
lightening. There were a bunch of big noisy bikes over there today.
Racing ended at 6:30 in the evening. There was a good thunderstorm
with some lightening for a few minutes during the afternoon, but not a drop
of rain fell anywhere around here.
08.13 Saturday August 13, 2005:
Racing started today at 10:30 in the morning, which is an hour early for
them. I understand that there was some kind of an agreement with the
locals to not start until 11:30 in the morning, but that maybe applies to
Sunday. There's no rules. Beautiful weather, but very hot. I
haven't heard of any heart attacks over there this year. They are racing
the very big bikes today. The noise level is unusually high.
Racing ended at about 7:00 in the evening. Most of the vehicles stayed
over in the campground. The campground was a noisy bunch until 11:00
pm. Sounded like a bunch of kids.
08.14 Sunday August 14, 2005:
It's really hot today, but racing is continuing where it left off
yesterday. and again it's the very big bikes. They started
at 11:30 am today. Racing ended at about 4:30 pm. Noise was the same
as yesterday, very penetrating. That means we closed all the doors
and windows and still couldn't get it quiet enough to watch television.
There was a threat of a thunderstorm but nothing happened except some minor
sprinkles and a smige of lightening.
09.03 Saturday September 3, 2005: The first
day of a two-day weekend was just a few large bikes and pickup trucks. Very
loud, but not many races, and they started at 09:00 in the morning. It
could be a training session or retailer's demonstrations. The weather is
nice this weekend. Mobile homes and campers are loading in this afternoon.
They'll camp over night and race tomorrow.
09.04 Sunday September 4, 2005: Today was
different, there were no races for large bikes. I understand from one
of the mommie's that there were kiddie races, and nothing today was over 150
cc, and apparently using mufflers (?). First time that's ever happened. It
was very quiet, I could see them going over the jumps but could hardly hear
them. (I haven't gone deaf, either.) Weather is holding good,
which means we really need rain. (A few bikes started running around
the track at 11:45am, but the National Anthem was played at 12:30pm, which
I suppose was the official start. You don't hear the National Anthem
over there every time they have a race day. Just rarely.)
09.18 Sunday September 18, 2005:
Racing today was relaxed and laid back. There was not
a large attendance, and the races were not back-to-back, as they usually
are. There were very large bikes making gut-shaking noise, and there
were small bikes that made hardly any noise at all. Racing ended at
5:45pm, and the campers were out of there within a few minutes. The
weather was perfect for racing today.
10.02 Sunday October 2, 2005: It was
a nice day for racing, but it didn't look much like a race over there. What
ever it was began on schedule at 11:30am, and ended at 5:30pm, but there
were no vehicles visible on this side of the hill. There were a few
very large bikes, and they only ran a few times. There were a lot of
small bikes over there, about kiddie size, and they had about all of them
all going around the track at the same time. Some of the participants
and their bikes were so small that they had to get off their bikes and push
them up the jumps. I surmise this was a Training Day, or something
like that.
10.23 Sunday October 23, 2005: A miserable
rainy day. Just drizzle, but 44 degree temperature made it go down
our collars. Racing today was similiar to the last few times out. Very
few vehicles there, and they were mostly pickup trucks. They got off
at 11:35am, and ended at 4:00pm. Races ran about every half hour, some
large bikes, but many were medium or small bikes.
11.12 Saturday November 12, 2005: This was
a practice day for tomorrow's races. Mostly the pickup truck w/trailer
crowd. The motor homes and large vans began to arrive in the late afternoon.
Good weather for racing. Some small bikes, and some very large
bikes. Not many vehicles.
11.13 Sunday November 13, 2005: Lots of races
today, all sizes of bikes, but there was a noticeable delay between races.
It appears that when the nature of the race schedule causes some riders
to run more than one race back-to-back there is a resting period for safety
reasons. That's what someone said. The loudspeaker is higher
than normal today. Everyone was out of there by 5 pm.
12.03 Saturday December 3, 2005: It's not
a race day, but some character, (maybe two), on a very large bike has been
over there most of the day. At least they're not using the loudspeaker.
