Hopewell Township supervisors were presented with a petition at their Oct. 2 meeting.
The noise and disturbance petition against Doublin Gap Motocross was signed by more than 56 citizens and presented by Ellen Whitaker of Minick Drive, and Nancy Taylor and Abigail Newburger, both of Long Lane. Minick Drive is on the north border of the track and Long Lane is on the southern border.

Chief complaints from the group were the loudspeakers, noise from the track, dust, and the amount of traffic on Route 696 that is generated by overnight campers.

Whitaker said that when the former owners operated the track, there were only about four races a year for local people. The new owners, however, have a web site which claims it is "the fastest growing motocross track on the East Coast." Residents are concerned about the long lines of campers on Route 696 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights when they arrive, and on Sundays when they leave.

Solicitor Sally Winder was given the go-ahead to pursue the issue from a legal standpoint. Other measures are being pursued by the township.

Township resident Danny Forrester attended a meeting in Carlisle about the Agriculture Preservation Act. He explained to the supervisors some of the details of the act and said that a board for Hopewell Township needed to be formed. The board would consist of three active farmers, one nonfarmer, and one supervisor. It would meet once a year.

Lavon Boden, township secretary/treasurer, reported that the township is now signed up with Agway's lockin price for heating oil for the winter at $1.59 per gallon.

A public hearing was discussed for the adoption of the revision of the subdivision ordinance plans. The final adoption would be Dec. 12.

The next supervisors meeting will be Monday, Oct. 16.
